Much of the food trade in Dhaka is now under the control of fast food vendors. Business is booming. From the corner of the neighborhood to the alleys, even the intersection of the main road—burgers, sausages, hotdogs, sandwiches, French fries are readily available everywhere. In the last two decades, mainly due to the Internet and the fun of the Gen Z, fast food has become so widespread in the alleys of Dhaka. Fast food has changed the face of Dhaka’s food culture.

However, there are exceptions. A group of dreamers have retained the country’s diverse food in Dhaka. Some are selling Khulna’s Chuijhal, some are selling Chittagong’s Mejban meat, and Rajshahi’s Kalai roti is also being sold in this Dhaka. Specialized ‘food hubs’ have been established with the diverse food of the hilly areas. So, you can enjoy the taste of the country’s diverse food during the holidays while sitting in Dhaka.
Kazipara in Mirpur is a crowded area. The drinking water problem is obvious here. There is a plague of mosquitoes. But Kazipara has another identity. That is, vegetables and fish from almost all regions of the country are available fresh in Kazipara. If you have the habit of walking in the morning, then you can get your daily vegetables in this neighborhood in central Dhaka without having to keep them in the refrigerator.
From Manikganj gourd to Munshiganj potatoes, from Lalmonirhat’s Saptibari brinjal to Sherpur’s yogurt – everything is available in Kazipara. And the diverse vegetables of the hilly region – turmeric, bean seeds, rose leaves, dried shimul, dried radish, dried chili, mushrooms – are available every day in the alleys of the dense neighborhood.
Several hilly cafes and restaurants have been established around the area focusing on hilly vegetables. Every evening, hilly moongdi (a type of noodles) is sold hot at the intersection of the neighborhood.
CHT Kalinari is one of the three hill restaurants in Kazipara. To reach the restaurant from Uttara or Motijheel, both ends of Dhaka, you have to get off at the east side of Kazipara Metro Station. Then you have to walk a little along the 282nd pillar of the metro. Then walk a few steps along Bagan Bilas Road, and CHT Kalinari will be on your left.
Almost all the popular dishes of the Chittagong Hill Tracts are available here. From chicken stewed with rose leaves (Huro Aile Juice) to various vegetable dishes—brinjal gavi, roselle curry, ginger flower, turmeric flower and a variety of hilly bharta-shutki will be available hot and cold at the restaurant.
